Senior Police Officer Dan Whitney was called out to a wreck on Highway 29 around 3 a.m. on August 18. He arrived to find a vehicle completely engulfed in flames, with a passenger trapped inside. In a heroic effort the officer was able to reach the man inside and rescue him.
